Ideal Location in the Southwest Suburbs

A Village Steeped in History

Founded in the early 19th century, Lemont is one of Illinois' oldest communities, with a legacy tied to the construction of the Illinois and Michigan Canal. This canal brought waves of immigration, especially from Irish and Eastern European communities, whose influence is still seen in local landmarks and traditions.

Lemont’s Historic Downtown District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, featuring limestone buildings, cobblestone walkways, and structures that date back to the mid-1800s. Visitors and residents can explore:

  • The Lemont Historical Society & Museum

  • Annual festivals like Heritage Fest that celebrate Lemont’s canal and quarry-town roots

This historic charm gives Lemont a distinctive character rarely found in newer suburban developments.
